Team Geo DeJesus lost 13-2 to Team Michael Gerlach at the inaugural Steve Carpenter 40-plus aged NWINABA Legends All Star Game. Illiana Thunderbolts Fall Ball registration now open: The Illiana Thunderbolts baseball program will participate in the 2019 fall ball season at Ho Chunk Baseball Complex, 19801 S. Valparaiso University to host special needs camp: Coach Matt Lottich and the Valparaiso men's program will hold a special needs camp from 9-11:30 a.m. Aug. 24 at the Athletics-Recreation Center. Back-to-School 3-on-3 tournament accepting preregistration: A back-to-school 3-on-3 basketball tournament will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Indiana Northwest Campus Savannah Hall Gymnasium during the Back-to-School Jamboree. Hammond Sportsplex to host men's fall basketball league: A men’s fall basketball league at the Hammond Sportsplex will have games on Sunday nights from Sept. 8 to Nov. 10, which includes 10 games and a postseason tournament. Games start at 7 p.m. Registrations will be taken at the Hammond Sportsplex, 6630 Indianapolis Blvd., from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Monday through Friday in the main office through Sept. 2. Valparaiso Boys & Girls Club basketball league to start Sept. 16: Regular registration for the Valparaiso Boys & Girls Club's league will run through Aug. 30. The league runs from Sept. 16-Nov. 9 and the divisions are: TINY (4-5 years old) and BIDDY (6-7 years old), with practices Saturday mornings and games immediately following. Fee is $30 without the basketball jersey, $45 if jersey is needed. JUNIOR (8-10 years old), with practices Wednesday evenings and games late mornings or early afternoons Saturdays. Fee is $35 without the basketball jersey, $50 if jersey needed. SENIOR with two age divisions: 10-11 years old (fee is $35 without the basketball jersey, $50 if jersey is needed); and 12-14 years olds (fee is $45, $60 if jersey needed). Valpo women’s team to Hold Elite Camp: The Valparaiso University women’s program will hold an Elite Camp at the Athletics-Recreation Center from noon-5 p.m. Aug. 24. The camp is for players entering grades nine through 12. The cost is $75 per camper. This camp features high-intensity teaching and skills training, in addition to skills and team competitions. High School Sports

Valparaiso season passes on sale: Athletic passes for the 2019-2020 season are available for purchase in the athletic office, Door 5. Prices are: Adult season pass, $100 (cannot be shared); Student season passes, $40 (cannot be shared). Students must have their current Student ID to purchase a pass. 10-Event Pass is $40 (can be shared). Cash or check only (no credit cards). Make checks payable to VHS Athletics. Replacement cards are $5 each. All regular event tickets are $6 each Kindergarten-up. Students must have a ticket for all events that they are not rostered for. Season passes do not include admittance to sectional, regional, semistate or state events. All 2019-2020 passes will expire May 29, 2020. Passes from 2018-2019 expired May 24, 2019.

LaPorte H.S. athletic department selling SLICER PASSES: Athletic passes for the 2019-20 school year are on sale now. The SLICER PASS allows for admittance to all home Slicer athletic events, excluding tournaments and invitationals, at a savings from gate admittance price. The SLICER PASS may be purchased in increments of 10, 15 or 20 admittances, is transferable and allows more than one individual to enter on the same pass. SLICER PASSES will not be available at athletic events; they must be purchased at the athletic office from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday. Porter AM dates announced: The 2019 Porter Amateur dates have been announced. On Sept. 14 (Round 1), the master division/women's division will start play at 11 a.m. at Sand Creek, while the open division will start 8 a.m. at The Brassie. On Sept. 15 (Round 2), the master division/women's division will begin 8 a.m. at Forest Park, while the open division will start 11 a.m. at Valparaiso Country Club. On Sept. 21 (Round 3), the master division/women's division will begin play at 8 a.m. at The Brassie, while the open division will start 9:45 a.m. at The Brassie. On Sept. 22 (Round 4), the master division/women's division will start 11 a.m. at VCC, while the open division will begin play at 11 a.m. at Sand Creek. Play will be in threesomes, the tournament committee will do the pairings, and correspondence will be done by email. The number of players in each division will be limited. Entry fee is $150 and deadline to register is 2 p.m. Sept. 9. Valparaiso boys team to host alumni day: The Valparaiso High School boys soccer team will host its second annual Alumni Day for all former players Aug. 24 when VHS plays Bishop Noll. Alumni must RSVP to vhsboysocceralums@gmail.com or the Facebook page event VHS Boys Soccer Alumni Day. Alumni will be admitted to the game free and will be recognized between the JV and varsity match against Bishop Noll at Viking Arena approximately 11 a.m. There will also be an alumni game following the varsity match.

Hammond Sportsplex to host a kids camp: The Hammond Sportsplex is hosting a youth volleyball camp from 6-7:30 p.m. Sept. 10-12 for children ages 8-15.
