Valpo Dog Fest combines dogs and craft beer

The Market in Valparaiso will host Valpo Dog Fest this weekend.

Valparaiso's going to the dogs Sunday for the Valpo Dog Fest: Hops and Hounds.

The free festival at The Market near U.S. 30 and Ind. 49 is for dog lovers who also appreciate a strong craft beer and gourmet food.

"Dog love, beer love, tasty food love," The Market owner and executive chef Jason Rudy said. "That's our goal this Sunday. Free admission and all are invited (probably not cats)."

The all-ages outdoor event on the grounds of The Market, at 2405 E. Morthland Drive, will take place rain or shine from noon to 5 p.m. People are encouraged to bring their dogs on a leash and check out vendors like Ruff Luxury Inn, Healthi Paws and Giant Pawprints Rescue, which will have dogs available to adopt.

The popular Chicago craft brewery Lagunitas, which features a dog on many of its labels, will sell Lagunitas IPA, Sump'n Easy, Super Cluster, Sour Pineapple and Mozango at a beer garden, where it will offer swag for both canines and people.

Food options include The Market, Ricochet Tacos and Tomato Bar.

There will be a DJ, live music, a kiddie zone with a bounce house and an exhibition by Valpo K9.
