Jewel-Osco is bringing high-energy fun to Chicago with exciting family-friendly celebrations, JoJo’s Birthday Bash and Electric Anniversary. Both are free to attend.
The festivities begin Saturday, Aug. 30, when JoJo, Jewel-Osco’s cherished mascot, celebrates their eighth birthday at Maggie Daley Park. The afternoon party runs from noon to 4 p.m. on the Millennium Park’s Great Lawn, offering families an action-packed day with activities for all ages. The celebration kicks off with a parade led by Chicago’s Rhythm Messengers drumline, starting at Maggie Daley Park’s Skating Ribbon and making its way to Millennium Park’s Great Lawn. JoJo will be joined by fellow Chicago mascots Staley Da Bear, South Paw, Skates, Skye the Lioness and more for the procession.
Families can expect an impressive lineup of entertainment throughout the afternoon. The event features live DJ sets, stage entertainment, arcade games and an AI photo booth. Kids will love the glow-in-the-dark airbrush tattoos, bounce houses, face painting and balloon artists. For the more adventurous attendees, Bunker Laser Tag offers interactive fun. Arrive early and enjoy a free birthday cupcake while they last. There will be prizes, party favors and giveaways.
Electric Anniversary, North Avenue Beach, Thursday, Sept. 4
From 6 to 10 p.m., Jewel-Osco hosts its Electric Anniversary Party and Second Annual Charity Volleyball Tournament, where attendees will have a blast and some friendly competitive fun in the spirit of community giving.
The glow-in-the-dark volleyball and bocce ball charity tournaments feature mixed/coed 4’s and 6’s divisions open to all skill levels.
Winners of each division earn the opportunity to direct a $4,000 donation to local charities.
Keeping the beach party lively, there will be a neon foam party, cornhole games, food booths and a vibrant Beer and Beverage Garden.
DJs Heather, Collette and Flipside will provide the electric soundtrack, while Thursday Night Football broadcasts on multiple big screens.
VIP guests can enjoy JoJo’s Time Out Zone, an exclusive lounge offering the best views of the action and additional perks. JoJo will be on-hand for a meet-and-greet.
Both events showcase Jewel-Osco’s commitment to community engagement, building on the success of last summer’s 125th anniversary celebration. The grocer, which operates 189 locations across Illinois, Northwest Indiana and Iowa, employs more than 31,000 associates and has been locally owned and operated since 1899.
The celebrations come to life through partnerships with major brands including Nabisco, Blue Bunny, General Mills, McCain, Danone, Home Run Inn, Hormel, Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, Sargento, Seattle’s Best, Frito-Lay, Birds Eye and Tyson.
