There is a host of reasons people need auto body repair, from an accident to storm damage and more, and a host of reasons people need their vehicles back quickly, says John Schultheis, director of business development.
“That’s where we shine at Tom & Ed's,” says Schultheis.
He says the business is honored to have been voted First Place for Autobody Shop, “but the bottom line is that we could not have done it without our incredible employees, loyal customers and trusted partners.”
It matters where the shop gets its parts and supplies, because they have to be businesses Tom & Ed's can count on for quality products that arrive in a timely manner, says Schultheis. “That helps us build trust with our customers.”

You don’t last 130 years as a bank — or any other business — without finding a way to connect with customers.
That’s why CEO Mike Schrage is confident that a people-first approach has been the driving force behind Centier’s steady growth to becoming Indiana’s largest private, family-owned and operated bank.
“Our mission over the last 130 years has been to take care of our customers and our associates and is rooted in the highest standards for hospitality and welcomeness,” he says. “The personal connections we make are authentic, and they foster a lasting impact on how we make people feel, which is valued, heard and supported.”
That philosophy, shared and lived by employees every day, is likely one of the main reasons the bank comes out on top in this category year after year.
“It is always a tremendous honor to be named the Best Bank,” Schrage says. “Our outstanding associates, who intentionally and consistently enrich our customers’ financial journeys, are really responsible for our success.”
Centier Bank also was voted Best Customer Service.

“Our employees are the ones who make everything happen. They’re the reason we’ve won Best of the Region four years in a row, and that’s because people want good value; they want to be taken care of, and they want to go to a place they can trust,” says Jason Smith, who with his wife, Jennifer Smith, own M&M Car Care Center.
The Smiths opened their business 18 years ago, naming it for their two young daughters whose names each start with an M. They now have six locations, but still keep the same exacting standards they’ve had since the beginning.
“When you have as many locations as we have, people tend to think that you’re a chain or a big corporation,” says Smith. “But we're just a small family business. My wife and I started it from nothing and with the support of the community, our customers and our staff that we've built over the years, we've been able to have a successful business. But we still operate like a mom and pop shop.”

In business since 1997, Drive & Shine now has 20 locations throughout Indiana and Michigan, providing state-of-the-art car washing equipment they design and manufacture as well as a climate controlled self-service building that offers everything needed to clean the interior of a car at your fingertips.
“No one else has that,” says Joe Luchene, director of operations for Drive & Shine, noting that is among the reasons they were voted Best of the Region.
Luchene, who has worked for the company for 17 years, says their well-trained and dedicated staff are another reason for their success.
“We have an 85% retention rate with our leadership team, many of whom have worked here for 10 plus years,” he says. “Our staff is very committed to providing the best service possible.”
Customer retention rates are also high. Luchene says that he’s served customers and their children are now bringing their cars for cleaning and oil changes.
“We’re creating lifelong customers with the services we provide,” he says.

Our clients know they can count on us for thorough, customized cleanings and friendly, trustworthy service. We treat every home like it’s our own, and our team takes great pride in their work. Staying connected to our customers and giving back to the community are also at the heart of what we do.”

In 1972, Giovanni Grisolia, who had recently immigrated from Southern Italy, decided to supplement his work in the steel mills by opening a concrete business, pouring concrete on his days off and between shifts.
“He was ahead of the times starting his own concrete finish and calling it California style,” says his son Bernie Grisolia, who followed his father in the family business. “It had a different pattern and a smooth edge border that really took off. My father always said 'I know it's only concrete, but you have to look at it every day,' so he always wanted to make it fancy.”
Grisolia's is truly a family business. Besides his mother, Nancy, brother, John, and sister, Lora Ormes, Bernie’s son Giovanni also helps out. Grisolia, who is also chief of the Hammond Fire Department, says his family carries on the traditions of his father, providing residential custom work including driveways, sidewalks and stairways, expert workmanship and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
“I started working with concrete when I was about 7 years old,” he says. “And my father also taught us that it’s important to give back to the community and we continue to do that as well.”

Kari Marich says one of the keys to success in the staffing industry, particularly in Northwest Indiana, is to understand that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t cut it. Instead, it’s important to truly understand the needs of the employer and the jobseeker to make a match that works for both sides.
“We are committed to pairing the right people with the right positions through a detailed pre-screening process that has been fine-tuned over time,” says Marich, Staff Source’s chief financial officer. “We do not rush to fill roles, but instead work hard to get it right, because we know our clients depend on reliable, hardworking employees.”
Marich also notes that being local means that she and the veteran Staff Source team are accessible, responsive and invested in every outcome. It’s all part of a collective dedication to treating every employer and every candidate with honesty and respect.
“We face challenges every day in this business, but what keeps employers and jobseekers coming back to us is the way we handle those challenges,” she says. “Our clients know we are going to give them dependable pre-screened candidates, and jobseekers know they are not just a number in a system. Marc Ruiz says the growth of Oak Partners in more than three decades — from a team of four to more than 40 professionals — is based on the same fiduciary principles that the company was founded upon. It’s a philosophy of putting the best interests of the clients at the center of everything the firm does — from the adviceto the planning underpinning it to the client relationships nurtured over time.
“Our greatest professional validation is in growing with our clients as they progress through their financial lives, helping them to navigate planning decisions, harness financial markets and manage economic forces to pursue their unique definition of success,” explains Ruiz, a partner and team leader.
Meanwhile, the firm’s dedication to its local community shows up in things like its new financial wellness education program, which gives employers (local businesses, municipalities, school systems) a chance to teach their employees about financial planning and investing topics in a low-key, entertaining and comfortable setting on site. Just like with its existing clients, the goal of this program is to guide individuals along in their pursuit of financial success, something the team at Oak Partners is passionate about.
“The people at Oak Partners make all the difference,” says Ruiz. "We provide our clients with the opportunity to invest and grow with friends who are totally focused on their success.”

In an industry such as roofing where most companies are selling basically the same products, you have to find another way to stand out. And for Total Roofing & Construction, that differentiator is the quality of the service — before, during and after an installation.
"I think customers like working with us because of our communication," says marketing manager Eric Gess. "We try to be as open and honest as possible. From the moment you first call us to speaking with a project manager to the time of actually getting your roof or siding installed, we want you to feel heard and comfortable every step of the way."
Gess says customers also appreciate the quality of the work done by the company's highly trained in-house teams. It all adds up to the kind of experience that helps make what could be a stressful process that much more comfortable .
"Since moving to Schererville two years ago, we've strived to not just be a business located in Schererville, but a neighbor and supporter of all the communities in Northwest Indiana," Gess notes. "Being named Best Roofer gives us added motivation to keep raising the bar of quality, ensuring the people of Northwest Indiana get the service they truly deserve for the place where life happens."
Total Roofing & Construction also was voted Best Door & Window Replacement and Best Siding Company.

The owners of 45th Street Tattoo — Chencho Leon, Sieto Maldonado and Jeff "Lefty" Zygowicz — are long-time residents, each with around 30 years of tattooing experience in the Region, according to Zygowicz.

Since 2007, they have provided full-service tattooing, including walk-ins, seven days a week and large-scale custom work by appointment.
